”Paths of Glory” (1957)

A film about WW1. French general plans the suicide attack on a hard-defended stronghold. Not surprisingly, army takes the huge losses, do not run into the enemy positions, attack - total failure. General wants to find the guilty - accused soldiers, that they lacked the moral and cowards that they retreated. Three soldiers are selected for the death penalty. Great episode of a military tribunal, where the soldiers were investigated, and how their Colonel tries to protect them.
The film shows great generals disregard for soldiers, the cruel realities of soldierly and futility of war tribunal.

Filmas apie WW1. Prancūzų generolai suplanuoja savižudišką ataką ties sunkiai įveikama tvirtove. Nenuostabu, kad nuostoliai didžiuliai, iki priešų pozicijų nenubėgta, ataka – totali nesėkmė. Generolas nori surasti kaltus – apkaltina kareivius, kad šie pritrūko moralės ir bailiai atsitraukė. Išrenkami trys kareiviai mirties bausmei. Puikus epizodas karo tribunole, kai apklausiami kareiviai, ir kaip gina juos pulkininkas.
Filmas puikiai įrodo generolų nesiskaitymą su kareiviais, žiaurią kareivišką realybę ir karo tribunolo beprasmiškumą.
