Rašytojui kūrybinė krizė, tad nuolatos prisimena įvairiausius savo knygų personažus, jų istorijas, kurios tiesiogiai susipynusios su pačio rašytojo istorijomis. Šiame filme kaip niekad daug Allenas pažėrė išminties perlų.
O ir situacijų įvairovė neįtikėtina. Buvusi žmona atvažiuoja pas rašytoją nusižudyti, nes šis išpasakojo jų gyvenimo istoriją, rašytojas neištikimas savo žmonai psichologei su jos pacientais, patenka į pragarą ir ten sutinka savo buvusias meilužes ir draugus, keliauja į universitetą ištaigingam priėmiman, o pakeliui miršta jo draugas, o prie univero jį suima policija...
